In 2023 the shelter moved to its current location at 300 N. Lincoln Avenue. Stepping Stone Shelter is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. The shelter provides temporary housing and meals to those in need.

In 2025, Stepping Stone Shelter received a one time allocation from the State of Kansas for much needed infrastructure renovations. This project began in fall of 2025, and the shelter was closed for construction until March, 2026. This project included (but not limited to) adding more accessible rooms for persons with disabilities and creating a safe and fully functioning commercial kitchen to serve residential clients and visitors to the soup kitchen.
Clients meet with a case manager to determine the steps needed to attain employment and permanent housing. Clients must apply for an initial 30-day stay and may be able to stay at the shelter for up to 90 days if they meet all requirements. Stepping Stone provides housing for both families and individuals in a safe and supportive environment.

Meals are provided three times a day to clients and walk-ins to the soup kitchen. Meals are provided for anyone in the community that is in need. The shelter kitchen serves over 3000 meals a month. Meals are served at 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., Noon to 1 p.m., and 6 to 7 p.m.

Individual clients are housed in shared rooms. We have a limited number of family rooms for families with children. There is also limited accessible housing for clients with disabilities. Clients have the use of a washer and dryer for clothes and linens. The shelter also provides an employment center where clients can create a resume or search for employment.
